Firefly Education Autumn School Visits
Back to Abingdon House School, part of the Cavendish Group

Firefly Education is visiting schools in the London area over the next few months.
The other day we went to visit Natalie’s old work place, Abingdon House School.
It was wonderful to see old colleagues, tour the new prep school and see all the changes at the secondary.
The intake of the school has changed since Natalie worked there, with autism now the main need. Some children also have specific learning difficulties.
The prep is very bright and airy. The school uses the spaces they have well. They going into the community a great deal, with park trips proving a great way to get out and about.
This also allows for other learning opportunities for the children, helping with lifeskill and social interactions in real life.
The secondary has changed a great deal since Natalie left, first off it wasn’t a secondary then.
The space is well used, we loved the life skills room, the library and the sensory room, which are all new since our last visit.
The small amount of outside space is well utilised to incorporate the horticulture certificate which is offered to the pupils.
Several pupils came up to chat with us, and it was lovely to see how happy they are at AHS.
Abingdon House School is a fantastic choice for autistic children who are able to access the curriculum.
Therapists are integrated into lessons, with some pull-out sessions as needed. Collaboration is key to the way AHS works; therapists come into classrooms to work alongside teachers, providing engaging lessons which meet the needs of the children.
